Aim and content
This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list.
The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School). Special rules apply for research year students enrolled at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Course title
Introduction to Stata.
Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to make the participants able to
- import and export data in Stata
- do basic data manipulations
- write simple programs (functions, loops, control structures)
- perform basic statistical analyses in Stata
Content
The course covers fundamental use of the statistical software package Stata 13. Topics covered include: Introduction to import and export of data in Stata. Recoding of existing variables and calculation of new variables. Joining and reshaping data. Producing tables and graphics. Basic Stata programming syntax. Statistical analyses (e.g. descriptive and regression analysis).
Half of the time will be reserved for hands-on computer exercises where we will expect students to bring their own laptops with Stata installed.
Participants
Ph.D.-students and health researchers with a basic knowledge of statistics corresponding to the course on basic statistics for health researchers. Max 20 participants.

Danish or English.

Admission to Ph.D.-students from Danish universities will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and according to the rules in force.
Applications from other participants will be considered after last day of enrollment.
Note: All applicants are asked to submit invoice details in case of no-show, late cancellation or obligation to pay the course fee (typically non-PhD students) If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
