Aim and content
This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School). Special rules apply for research year students enrolled at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student, you will be placed on the waiting list for the course until enrollment deadline. After the deadline of enrollment, available seats will be allocated to students on the waiting list.

Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:

1. Understand state of the art Gene Targeting and Editing technology
2. Design and perform Gene Targeting and Editing experiments
3. Analyse results from Gene Targeting and Editing experiments
4. Explain principles and use of CRISPR technology
5. Explain principles and use of antisense and siRNA technology

Content
Experimentally, the following (cell culture) techniques will be taught via laboratory exercises: 1. Gene knockout and knock in by CRISPR and zinc finger nuclease (ZNF) technology. 2. Gene silencing by siRNA technology. 3. mRNA splicing modulation by antisense technology. 4. Prodrug technology by gene therapy. A deeper and broader theoretical understanding of the techniques and their (potential) applications is offered via lectures by national and international experts in the field combined with active group work.
Describe the course curriculum in terms of scientific topics covered.

Participants
The course is relevant for medical, pharmaceutical, veterinarian and biology students with a broad background in molecular and cell biology as well as some laboratory experience.
