PhD students participate in the biannual Scandinavian Plant Physiology Society (SPPS) PhD conference. The 2018 edition of this summer school (or conference) will be held from 11th until the 14th of September 2018 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The conference is exclusively for PhD students, who will present their own research. In addition, internationally renowned scientists are invited as speakers and they will present their work and the latest developments and techniques in plant science.
The Scandinavian countries alternate in hosting the SPPS summer school. The 2018 summer school is organized by PhD students from the Copenhagen University. The purpose of the summer school is - to give participating PhD students an insight into new developments in plant related science- to give students an insight in plant biology research carried out by fellow PhD students, mostly in Scandinavia.- to introduce the participants to a network of students, working with similar subjects. - to strengthen this network by communicating you own research at the conference.- to practice conference talks and poster sessions in a small environment.
An abstract book will be provided to each participant just before the conference. A few papers written by invited speakers will be provided before theconference.
Before the conference: Selected papers by invited speakers will be forwarded to the students before the conference. Students must also prepare a presentation of their own research to be given at the conference (oral or poster presentation according to selection by local organizers). During the conference: The invited speakers and some students will give a lecture or presentation about their research. Other students will present their work in a poster session. Students are motivated to participate in discussions after the lectures and during the poster presentations. The invited senior scientists will be available during the conference for discussions plant sciences on individual basis.
After the conference: Each student must deliver a short summary of the meeting to the course responsible.
Venue:
The conference will be held at Danhostel Ishøj near Copenhagen, Danmark. Registration at arrival will take place on the 11th of September. The conference will end on the 14th of September in the afternoon. It will take around 15 minutes to walk from the conference center to Ishøj station. From Ishøj station it’s only 20 minutes with the s-tog (s-train) to Copenhagen Central station and 40 minutes to the airport.
Price:
A fee is charged to cover of the costs of board and lodging. PhD students that have been members of SPPS for a year or more can apply to SPPS for financial support of travel costs. Please see the website for updated information about the costs.
