Content

PhD students participate in the biannual Scandinavian Plant Physiology Society (SPPS) PhD conference. The 2018 edition of this summer school (or conference) will be held from 11th until the 14th of September 2018 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The conference is exclusively for PhD students, who will present their own research. In addition, internationally renowned scientists are invited as speakers and they will present their work and the latest developments and techniques in plant science.

The Scandinavian countries alternate in hosting the SPPS summer school. The 2018 summer school is organized by PhD students from the Copenhagen University. Registration for the conference will open in January 2018. Read more on http://plen.ku.dk/english/the-10th-scandinavian-plant-physiology-society-phd-student-conference/

The summer school is financially supported by Scandinavian Plant Physiology Society. SPPS is a society open to everyone interested.

People can sign up for the PhD conference via the http://plen.ku.dk/english/the-10th-scandinavian-plant-physiology-society-phd-student-conference/

Learning outcome

The purpose of the summer school is
- to give participating PhD students an insight into new developments in plant related science
- to give students an insight in plant biology research carried out by fellow PhD students, mostly in Scandinavia.
- to introduce the participants to a network of students, working with similar subjects.
- to strengthen this network by communicating you own research at the conference.
- to practice conference talks and poster sessions in a small environment.

Literature

An abstract book will be provided to each participant just before the conference. A few papers written by invited speakers will be provided before theconference.

Teaching and learning methods

Before the conference:
Selected papers by invited speakers will be forwarded to the students before the conference. Students must also prepare a presentation of their own research to be given at the conference (oral or poster presentation according to selection by local organizers).

During the conference:
The invited speakers and some students will give a lecture or presentation about their research. Other students will present their work in a poster session. Students are motivated to participate in discussions after the lectures and during the poster presentations. The invited senior scientists will be available during the conference for discussions plant sciences on individual basis.

After the conference:
Each student must deliver a short summary of the meeting to the course responsible.

Lecturers
Invited speakers and fellow PhD conference participants. The course responsible is present throughout the conference to evaluate the process.
The course is in form of a scientific conference where the students participate in scientific sessions. The presentations are all based on ongoing research and include both the students´ own research and presentation by selected senior scientists.
