Aim and content
This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list.

The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School). All other participants must pay the course fee.

Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:

1. Familiarise himself/herself with the most important project management methods and instruments

Content
The main topic areas covered are:

Project planning (You learn to apply these tools directly to your own project during the course)
• Managing and delivering a research project:
o Defining goals and sub-goals
o Setting milestones
o Basics of planning (building a short timeline, e.g. for a month, or to the next milestone)
o Identifying risks that can negatively impact the project and developing ways to deal with them
• identifying and managing expectations on the project
Scientific interactions and collaboration
• Using collaborative tools appropriately
• Handling expectations and agreements with collaborators
Research / Career Development
• How to use the half-year report to enhance your progress
• What support can you expect from my supervisor
• How to get help from other colleagues
Time Management
• Helpful tools to prioritize your tasks and make better use of your time
• How to deal with interruptions and distractions that impede progress
Communication skills (These are some practical skills that support the other topics in this course)
• Feedback
• Assertiveness
• Saying “no”

Participants
PCAP students who have started their PhD within the previous 6 months will have first priority on this course, this means that all applicants will be put on the waiting list upon registration, and after deadline all participants will be notified.

Please register before November 1st 2017. Since the course is mandatory for PCAP students, all participants will be put on the waiting list upon registration.

Seats to PhD students from other Danish universities will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and according to the applicable rules.
Applications from other participants will be considered after the last day of enrolment.

Note: All applicants are asked to submit invoice details in case of no-show, late cancellation or obligation to pay the course fee (typically non-PhD students). If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
