Content
This journal club is suited towards PhD students who are conducting research within the field of electrocatalysis and electrochemical surface science. The main purpose of the journal club is to keep up to date with scientific literature and recent advances within the community. In addition to this, students will also learn to read, analyse, evaluate, present and discuss the science.
Learning outcome
After attending this course, the student will be able to:
- Find relevant scientific literature
- Read a scientific article
- Critically analyse the work; design of experiment, validity, bias
- Define, understand and use technical electrochemical and surface science terms
- Evaluate strengths and weaknesses of the methods
- Summarise an article
- Present an article
- Discuss the importance of the work
- Engage in scientific and group discussion
- Relate the work to their own research
Teaching and learning methods
The meetings are based on journal article presentations and discussions. Each month, three students will each present a recent article from a highly ranked or well-regarded journal within the field of electrocatalysis and electrochemical surface science. There will be 20 minutes allocated per article, therefore, the presentation should be max. 10 minutes in duration to allow for 10 minutes of discussion afterwards. The article references are emailed to the club participants prior to the meeting.
Remarks
Please note that you must be a member of the Rossmeisl or Escudero Escribano group to attend this PhD course.
The course lasts for one year and the dates coincide with the block structure. In 2018 it begins in block 3, continues over block 4 and 1 and will be finishing in block 2. We will have the meetings on the first Friday of the month.
