Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list.

The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School). All other participants must pay the course fee.

A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:

1. Demonstrate skills in oral and written communication sufficient to present hers/his PhD project;
2. Effectively communicate his/her science to different audiences;
3. Have insight into peer review process;
4. Demonstrate ability to productively interact with people from diverse backgrounds with integrity and professionalism;
5. Have insight into how to generate an open and collaborative environment and networking.

Content
The central aim of this PhD seminar is to provide a structured framework for participants to effectively communicate their research with the guidance from experts and fellow students. Participants will work on individual projects (abstract, presentation, flash talk and/or poster) relating to their PhD projects.
Prior to the main event, students will participate in a workshop to help them improve their individual projects, with focus on communication and audience engagement. As a significant social and scientific event, the PhD Seminar aims to both bridge the gap between groups and sections as well as strengthen the spirit of community among the students from the different departments located at SUND. Overall, this PhD Seminar course aims to provide an open and collaborative environment to stimulate networking and new interdisciplinary collaborations between young researchers. These discussions will benefit research at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, as well as inspire the PhD students to think more innovatively and creatively.

Preparation
• PhD students need to submit an abstract before the registration deadline (14th September). Abstract guidelines are available in the course website (https://bmi.ku.dk/english/phd_seminar/presentation-guidelines/);
• Each PhD student will be selected for a poster, a poster and flash talk or an oral presentation based on their abstract no later than 1 month before the event. Instructions for preparation of presentations and posters are available on the course website.

“How to sell your science” workshop – 11th or 12th October:
• Students will be divided in groups and attend a 3 hours’ workshop;
• Provide the students with skills to better successfully communicate their research and adapt to different audiences. The workshop will be given by a team of expert in the subject (Talerne.dk);

PhD Seminar – 2nd November
• Scientific oral presentations and flash talks from PhD students. Best presentation and flash talks will be voted by the audience. The winners will be awarded a travel grant for a meeting of their choice;
• External presentation - focused on networking skills;
• Open poster session divided in 2 groups where students can freely engage in scientific discussions and share their projects;
• Additionally, there will be time for Q&A after each presentation and networking in the coffee breaks and at the light dinner after the main event.

An abstract book will be handed out at the PhD day and the students are expected to participate actively in the event sessions.
