Course title
Scientific Project Planning and Management 1.

Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:

Familiarise himself/herself with the most important project management methods and instruments

Content
Main goal is to show you that good project- and self-management skills will help you to manoeuvre your research project smoothly.

In short teaching sessions and very interactive exercises you will think about the bigger picture and vision of your PhD project define SMART goals and analyse your stakeholder. You will also use the experience and feedback of your peers to asses’ common and not so common risks and mitigate them.

With classic and agile project management tools you will then plan your next project months and be aware of i.e. dependencies and important milestones. You will learn how to assess and report the progress of your project and how to deal with difficulties.

Since a research project is not done by yourself alone, a big part of the second day of the workshop will deal with communication especially with your supervisor, with motivation of yourself and others and with team dynamics. Here again the approach is very interactive and practical.

Finally, you will learn to set right priorities and to manage your time efficiently using a role based weekly planner.

With this toolbox you will surely get more clarity about the next steps in your PhD project and be prepared for the certainties and uncertainties of a research project.

The main topic areas covered are:
Project planning and management
Scientific interactions and collaboration
Research / Career Development
Time Management
Communication skills
