Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:

1. Formulate a clinical relevant research question (PICO)
2. Have insight in the strengths and limitations of different trial designs
3. Plan and report clinical trials according to trustworthy standards
4. Choose clinically relevant outcomes, perform realistic sample size estimations and plan statistical analyses
5. Learn about SPIRIT (planning) and CONSORT (reporting) statements

Content
With this course, we offer an introduction to the planning, conducting and reporting of clinical trials for PhD students to be actively involved in clinical trials. Results from clinical trials inform patients, relatives, healthcare personnel, and society about the benefits and harms of existing treatments and new treatments. To harvest the full potential of the investments and hard work that lies behind clinical trials, the methodological standards of the trial should be of highest possible quality.
