Content
Understanding past and future climate requires an understanding of the carbon cycle, and a particularly important, yet poorly understood process, is how plankton removes carbon from the atmosphere and transports it to the abyss. In this course we will look into one aspect of this so-called biological pump: its dependence on ocean turbulence and stratification.

A novel aspect of this particular course is that theory is applied immediately by performing numerical experiments with a state-of-the-art climate model

Workload
Monday to Friday there will be lectures in the morning (9-noon).
Exercises in the afternoon (1pm - 5pm), and a daily short report in the evening (7pm-8pm).

Preparatory literature will require some 10 hours, and a report after the course also about 10 hours.
