Content
Learn how to write effectively and comply with the quality criteria of scientific publishers

This 4-day course provides you with

• Insights into the mechanics of a scientific paper and its various sections
• Constructive feedback from instructors and peers
• Style rules on grammar and vocabulary
• Rhetorical tools for building your argumentation
• Advice on efficient writing routines

Your own texts will be subject to analysis and feedback. Through a mix of writing exercises, text analysis and lectures, you will become a more productive and precise writer.

The course is for all PhD students engaged in academic writing regardless of research area: humanities, social and natural sciences.

Learning outcome
The course aims to improve your ability to

• Write in stylistically correct English for scientific writing
• Analyse and revise an academic text
• Use appropriate rhetorical and grammatical constructions in your writing
• Participate in collaborative writing and editing by using constructive peer feedback techniques
• Keep yourself motivated to write

Literature
An agenda with exercises and lecture programme for each day, participants’ compiled text samples with comments from instructors, slides, and a practical booklet with writing tools and checklists.

Teaching and learning methods
Short lectures, writing exercises, text analysis and revision, group discussions and presentation of groupwork.

Please note that participants are required to cover all costs pertaining to this course themselves. Participants must ensure that the financially responsible body (typically their department) accepts all costs before signing up for this course. This applies to all PhD students across all universities and departments.

Course fee
The course fee is DKK 6250.00. This includes VAT.
Applicants will be asked to provide invoicing information to be used to collect the course fee.

Cancellation
The course fee will be charged in full if enrolment is cancelled 14 days or less before the course.
