Aim and content
Introduction Course for New PhD Students (generic course)

The aim of this course is to introduce you to your new role as PhD student at the Faculty of SCIENCE and to offer you insight and tools to manage your project, research education, work/life balance and the collaboration with your supervisor(s). The course is a combination of lectures, discussions, exercises and social networking activities.

Formel requirements
The requirements for passing and receiving credits for this course are active participation throughout the four course days, providing feedback on two Personal Development Plans (PDP), as well as receiving and responding to feedback on your PDP from two other course participants.

Learning outcome
After the course, the participants will be able to:
• develop plan and career goals
• collaborate with supervisors and co-manage your supervisory relationships
• maintain Work/Life balance and stress management
• make oral presentations
• provide and receive feedback
• succeed in the writing process
• carry out project planning and management
• map personal and professional competence and plan competence development
• perform peer support and network
• take charge of their PhD studies

Literature
Material will be distributed electronically. Handouts will be distributed during the course.

Teaching and learning methods
During the 4-day course, we alternate between lectures, discussions and exercises. You will work on your own Personal Development Plan (PDP) during and after the course. As part of the assignment, you will discuss your PDP with your supervisor(s), so please make an appointment to meet with her/him/them 1-2 weeks after the course for this purpose. After submitting the PDP, you will receive feedback on your work.

Workload
The workload is set to a total of 55 hours (equivalent of 2 ECTS credits)

Daily hours:
• Monday 09:00 - 16:00
• Tuesday 09:00 - 16:00
• Wednesday 09:00 - 16:00
• Thursday 09:00 - 15:00

A full course program will be available 2 weeks prior to each edition of the course.

Remarks
PRICE
Tuition fee:
• Free for PhD students from UCPH Science
• Participants from SCIENCE will have their tuition fee paid for by the Faculty
• Others DKK 4.500 plus VAT

Participation fee:
1.150 plus VAT for all participants.

If you are not from UCPH Science it is your own responsibility to ensure that the financially responsible body (typically the home department) accepts all costs before signing up for this.

CANCELLATION
Your registration is considered binding and therefore the following rule apply: 3 weeks before the start of the course, it is possible to opt out, without having to pay the fees.
