Aim and content
The course is a mandatory two-day Introductory Course for New PhD Students. The aim of this course is to introduce you to your new role as a PhD student at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
During this course, you will have the opportunity to meet the Head of the PhD School and your fellow new PhD students. Additionally, you will receive valuable information and participate in a course on ‘Academic Freedom and Responsible Conduct of Research’.
Day 1: Introduction, Networking, and Reception for New PhD Students
In the morning session, you will meet the Head of the PhD School and your fellow PhD students from your faculty who are starting at the same time as you. You will also receive a wealth of useful information about the PhD programme at your faculty.
The afternoon session will focus on how to get started as a PhD student. This session is a joint programme for the four ‘dry’ faculties’ PhD schools, providing you with the opportunity to network with PhD students from other faculties.
Day 1 of the introductory course will conclude with an optional reception hosted by the PhD School. This reception will be a wonderful opportunity to socialize in a relaxed setting and further connect with your peers over light refreshments and snacks.
Day 2: Academic Freedom and Responsible Conduct of Research
This day features a compulsory course on ‘Academic Freedom and Responsible Conduct of Research’. The aim of this course is to introduce you to fundamental concepts, principles, and norms related to responsible research conduct. It will enable you to understand and reflect on ethical issues and requirements pertinent to your research.
Please note that the course material is quite comprehensive, so it is important to allocate sufficient time for preparation.
