Aim and content
Aim
The course will in 3 ½ hour enable participants to handle references on the computer via Reference Manager software and to import bibliographic information from on-line databases with focus on PubMed and Web Of Science. The student will learn to handle the 'cite while you write' function - e.g. adding citations in the text and instantly format citations and bibliography in different styles.
Content
The introduction, instruction and hands-on training will introduce participants to:
- Building databases
- Database maintenance
- Importing bibliographic information from on-line databases with focus on PubMed and Web of Science
- Searching and downloading from bibliographic databases
- Searching in and editing references
- Building keyword lists and synonyms
- Cite While You Write: creating a paper with properly formatted citations and bibliography
- Demonstration: using and formatting filters and styles
The course presents several other functions and will focus on version 12.
RefVizTM, Web Publisher, and RefMan on a Netwotk are not included in this course.
Participants
It is a beginner’s course.
The course is relevant to students using Reference Manager as their preferred bibliographic software. A similar course for students using Endnote will be delivered on request.
Participants must have at least superficial knowledge of information searching in PubMed or other bibliographic databases.
