Aim and content
Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:

a. demonstrate knowledge about the common tools employed in project management
b. manage the work involved in their project
c. navigate in an academic environment with multiple stakeholders

Content
The course will introduce participants to the basic tools of project management including defining the purpose, deliverables, result paths, milestones, success criteria, planning activities, performing risk assessment and how to create budgets for the work planned. The aim is to demonstrate how these tools can be applied to create master project schedules for the successful completion of individual PhD projects. Further topics covered will include:
- Project management as practised in academic research
- The one (wo)man project and self-management
- Project management in the pharmaceutical industry
- Conflict management
- Application of project management software

Participants
The course is primarily targeted at PhD students in their first year of study but all students are welcome and will benefit from the course.
