Aim and content
Aim
The main objective of this course is to present new front-line research and technologies that have major impact on biological, biomedical and physiological sciences.

The graduate students will be introduced to critical reading of scientific publications, and get insights into current cardiovascular research in internationally renowned laboratories as well as industrial research. Besides this, students will be introduced to the scientific form of meetings with researchers from their own and related fields of research.

Content
International guest speakers from academia and industry in the fields of cardiovascular research will present recent findings. Cardiovascular Research Seminars focus on important topics in cardiovascular sciences. The topics cover the molecular basis of cardiovascular diseases; cell signaling mechanisms; animal models for cardiovascular disease; and drug design in cardiovascular research.

Participants
The course addresses all PhD students who are interested in cardiovascular research.

Language
English

Form
The Cardiovascular Research Seminars is a course comprising four lectures including discussion in the spring semester 2015.
Active participation of students is fostered by several means:
• Based on literature study, students prepare 2-3 questions per speaker/lecture.
• Students interact with the speaker at a student’s luncheon, where scientific, but also career-related questions are discussed.
• Students meet the speaker in an informal atmosphere to discuss their own project – the rationale behind this is that even though the project is not within the speaker’s subject, he or she may have good ideas and feedback, i.e. the session allows for critical discussion of own data and ideas (at least once during the course)
