Aim and content
Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
a. have insight in up-to-date knowledge about molecular basis ion channel function;
b. have insight in the cellular and physiological role of ion channels
c. explain and present own data in front of the renown speakers within the field
d. develop contacts to arrange stays abroad during the PhD period (or network for possible postdoc opportunities)

Aim and content
23 leading international scientists and Danish postdocs/ graduate students will cover recent findings in ion channel research
Keywords/topics covered in the course: Calcium-activated potassium channels; Ion channel auxiliary subunits and modulators; Manipulating ion channels with light – update on optogenetics; Pacemaker channels; Chloride channels

Description
The course gives an introduction to the physiological significance of ion channels. A number of basic talks will deal with molecular studies of the function of ion channels, their regulation, biophysics, subunit interaction and pharmacology. Further, the course will cover studies on the role of ion channels in cells, organs, in animals in vivo and in humans with dysfunctional ion channels caused by mutations making them prone to e.g. cardiac arrhythmia.

Participants
PhD students or other scientist with basic background in Ion Channels, cardiology or neuronal physiology
Participants are expected to read review articles by the presenting international scientists as preparation to the course. Further, participants are asked to present a poster about their own project.
