Aim and content
The aim of this masterclass is to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of some of the fundamental concepts and advanced developments in the field of mathematical relativity. Through a series of lectures, participants will get an introduction to modern mathematical research topics on Einstein’s theory of general relativity and explore more recent developments within the field. Topics to be covered will include singularity theorems (Hawking, Penrose, and beyond), mass, and scalar curvature.

Formel requirements
Bachelors in mathematics.

Learning outcome
Knowledge:
• Learn about the Lorentzian geometrical approach to general relativity with a focus on causal theory, singularity theorems, and topology of black holes.
• Learn about the connections between scalar curvature and mass in asymptotically flat spacetimes.
• Get acquainted with modern developments in the field.

Skills:
• Learn about some of modern proof techniques in the lectures.

Competences:
• Understanding foundational principles so that they can actively engage in contemporary research.

Aimed at PhD students with a background in differential geometry and an interest in Einstein’s theory of general relativity.
