Aim and content This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School). Special rules apply for research year students enrolled at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. All other participants must pay the course fee. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student, you will be placed on the waiting list for the course until enrollment deadline. After the deadline of enrollment, available seats will be allocated to students on the waiting list. Learning objectives A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to: 1. Critically relate to origin and social assumptions regarding disease and diagnosis definition in own PhD-project. 2. Understand the historical context of science and knowledge 3. Understand the evolution of clinical guideline in sociocultural context Content The state of the art in science, current disease definitions, and perceptions of health and disease are critical for the design and interpretation of clinical research. However, often these seemingly objective definitions have historical and sociocultural origins. The purpose of this course is to provide a theoretical and practical platform for the understanding of research in a historical and societal context regarding the production and interpretation of current knowledge.
