Aim and content
This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School). Special rules apply for research year students enrolled at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student, you will be placed on the waiting list for the course until enrollment deadline. After the deadline of enrollment, available seats will be allocated to students on the waiting list.

Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will have gained:

1. a basic molecular understanding of the function of the key proteins being responsible for the fast electrical signalling in the heart such as ion channels and connexins.
2. insight into cutting edge research addressing the role of these signal molecules in the generation of various types of arrhythmia.
3. knowledge within the pathophysiology of atrial fibrillation, ventricular arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death from the leading experts in the world.

Content
Cardiac Na, K and Ca channel subtypes as well as connexins and their regulation via accessory subunits, fatty acids, post-translational modification. Arrhythmia caused by genetic variants, fibrosis of the heart, and remodelling of ion channel function. Atrial fibrillation and novel paradigms for treatment of this the most common type of arrhythmia. Specific ventricular arrhythmias, the development of cardiomyopathy, and sudden cardiac death.

Participants
The course is relevant for PhD students within the cardiovascular field, young doctors or postdocs and anyone interested in cardiac signalling and arrhythmia. There are no specific requirements but experience within one of the fields of the course will most likely ease the access and increase the value of the specific knowledge being presented.
Please remark; if you plan to attend the course Cardiac Electrophysiology, participation in this course (Cardiac Arrhythmia) is mandatory.
