Content
The central aim of this PhD course is to provide a structured framework for participants to effectively communicate their research with the guidance from experts and fellow students. Participants will work on individual projects (abstract, presentation, flash talk and/or poster) relating to their PhD projects.
Prior to the main event, students will participate in a workshop day to help them improve their individual projects, with focus on communication, as well as the written and visual aspects of their presentation. As a significant social and scientific event, the SUND PhD Day aims to both bridge the gap between groups and sections as well as strengthen the spirit of community among the students from the different departments located at SUND. Overall, this PhD Day course aims to provide an open and collaborative environment to stimulate networking and new interdisciplinary collaborations between departments. These discussions will benefit research at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, as well as inspire the PhD students to think more innovatively and creatively.

Specifically, the course is divided in the following elements:
Preparation
• PhD students will have to submit an abstract when signing up for the course. Abstract guidelines will be specified on the course website;
• Each PhD student will be selected for a poster, a poster and flash talk or an oral presentation based on their abstract no later than 6 weeks before the event. Instructions for preparation of presentations and posters will be available on the course website.
Presentation and writing workshop - 2 weeks prior to PhD day (26th and 27th October):
• Students will be divided in four groups and attend a workshop in the morning (9.00-12.00) and/or in the afternoon (13.00-16.00);
• PhD-students will attend a workshop on how to improve their scientific writing and oral presentations given by an expert specialized in presentation skills (Kirstine Dahl, Department of Science Education, UCPH) and another specialized in scientific language skills (Christine Møller, Medical Manuscripts).

PhD Day
• Scientific oral presentations and flash talks from PhD students.
Best presentation and flash talk will be voted by the audience. The winners will be awarded a prize at the end of the day;
• External presentation - focused on how PhD students can improve relation with their supervisors and how to stay motivated during your PhD by Camilla Østerberg (Department of Science Education, UCPH);
• Poster session divided in groups according to scientific field.
Best poster of each group will be awarded a smaller prize. The winner will be voted by the audience;
• Additionally, there will be time for Q&A after each presentation and networking in the coffee breaks and after the main event.

An abstract book will be handed out at the PhD day and the students are expected to participate actively in the event sessions.
