Aim and content
This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School). Special rules apply for research year students enrolled at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student, you will be placed on the waiting list for the course until enrollment deadline. After the deadline of enrollment, available seats will be allocated to students on the waiting list.
Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
Knowledge
Describe and understand the genetics and biology responsible related to animal behavior.
Describe, understand, analyze and conclude on the study and interpretation on animal behavior and animal training.
Skills
Plan and apply measurements of animal behavior in practice.
Content
The aim of the course is to give the participants knowledge and experience in the study and interpretation of animal behaviour. The course offers a broad spectrum of topics such as evolution; basic genetics; reproductive fitness; social strategies; sensation and perception; captive animal behaviour; methodology of measuring behaviour; consequences for housing, husbandry and care; the effect of environment on captive animal behaviour; habituation and acclimatisation; training and conditioning; behavioural assays; psychopharmacology; animal models of human behaviour.
Participants
PhD-students and other scientists, as well as veterinarians and technicians, who wish to increase their knowledge and skills in the use of studies on animal behaviour Participants should have passed a course in laboratory animal science for at least functions A and D according to Directive 2010/63/EU, Article 23.2 (formerly FELASA C or B courses).

The course consists of lectures (50%), practical exercises, field trips and study visits.

Applications from other participants will be considered after the last day of enrollment.
Note: All applicants are asked to submit invoice details in case of no-show, late cancellation or obligation to pay the course fee (typically non-PhD students). If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
