Aim and content
This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School). Special rules apply for research year students enrolled at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student, you will be placed on the waiting list for the course until enrollment deadline. After the deadline of enrollment, available seats will be allocated to students on the waiting list.
Course title
Advanced Social Epidemiology: A focus on Concepts, Context, Life-course and Policy
Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
1. Understand the central conceptual, methodological and analytical challenges when dealing with
social epidemiology
2. Describe and have insights into different ways of measuring social inequality
3. Discuss and define social stratification, social position and health
4. Explain life-course processes related to social epidemiology
5. Put the policy relevance of social epidemiology into perspective
Content
The course will provide an orientation to some main substantive, conceptual and methodological topics in
understanding the determinants of population health and health inequalities, including a focus on a lifecourse
perspective and contextual issues. Further the course will touch upon the policy relevance of social
epidemiology.

The participants are expected to have some basic understanding of epidemiology
