Aim and content
This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at graduate schools in the other Nordic countries. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student, you will be placed on the waiting list for the course until enrollment deadline. After the deadline of enrollment, available seats will be allocated to students on the waiting list.

Course title
Neuroimmunephysiology

Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:

1. Describe the basic principles within electrophysiology and neurophysiology
2. Explain the role of different ionotropic receptors, e.g. GABA receptors
3. Elucidate on how these molecules shape the function of neurons and glia
4. Contribute to cross-disciplinary research and discuss the translational aspects within the field
5. Propose relevant experiments in order to clarify the effects of physiological processes on CNS and immune cells, during health and disease

Content
This course will provide insights into new and innovative research and new techniques within the field of neurophysiology and CNS immunity. The primary focus will be on electrophysiological techniques used in the field of neuroscience and the impact of neurotransmitters and physiological processes on neurons, glial and immune cell functions, during health and disease.

The course will furthermore touch upon clinical aspects of these neuroimmunephysiological processes and translation of experimental data into clinical care.

This short and intense 2-day ph.d. course is placed in continuation of the master course ‘Neuroimmunology’. Master students from this course are also welcome to participate.

Describe the course curriculum in terms of scientific topics covered.

Participants
The course is offered to Ph.D students from relevant faculties and master students that followed the course ‘Neuroimmunology’ at Faculty of Health, KU. No formal requirements.
Number of course participants 16, but more can participate if interested.

Relevance to graduate programmes
The course is relevant to PhD students from the following graduate programmes at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences, UCPH:

Molecular Mechanisms of DiseaseMolecular Mechanisms of Disease
Immunology and Infectious DiseasesImmunology and Infectious Diseases
NeuroscienceNeuroscience

Language
English

Form
The course builds upon a series of lectures from Danish and European experts in Neurology, Electrophysiology and Immunology. In addition to the lectures, the PhD course will include problem based assignments to be solved during the course period.
