Aim and content The 2019 Saltin International PhD Course on "Exercise as Medicine: a Translational Perspective" September 23-26, Snekkersten, Denmark The 2019 Saltin International PhD Course and Symposium is arranged by the Centre for Physical Activity Research (CFAS) in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen (SCIENCE and SUND), the University of Southern Denmark, and several universities in Canada. This intensive, advanced PhD Course consists of two integrated parts: - A three-day residential PhD Course on "Exercise as Medicine in a Translational Perspective" (Sept 23rd – 25th) - A Symposium on “Exercise as Medicine in a Mechanistic Perspective” (Sept 26th) Deadline for registration is June 7, 2019, and successfull applicants will be notified by or before June 21. FOR MORE INFORMATION, PRELIMINARY PROGRAM AND REGISTRATION: Registration Purpose The purpose of the PhD course is to present and discuss the most recent research in the area of the effects of regular physical activity in the prevention and treatment of disease. Scientific content • Exercise as medicine • The effect of physical activity in Obesity • The effect of physical activity in Diabetes • The effect of physical training in cardiovascular disease • The effect of physical activity in Pulmonary disease • Exercise, muscle and tendons • Exercise and neurology • Exercise and cancer Format The course is the product of a unique collaboration between multiple Canadian universities and University of Copenhagen where the course is held in Canada versus Copenhagen alternating years. Students from Canada and Denmark as well as other countries can participate. Learning outcome The students are expected to get a solid insight into the latest knowledge regarding the effect of physical activity in the prevention and treatment of disease. They will also learn to critically evaluate scientific work and to improve their ability to present and discuss science. Literature Literature will consist of scientific articles provided by each of the speakers. Teaching and learning methods The course will be a combination of lectures by some of the most renowned international researchers in the area and of discussions. Combined with article reading, preparation for presentations and discussions, the participants are expected to contribute with at least 83 hrs of work, corresponding to 3,3 ECTS. Deadline for registration Deadline for registration will be June 7, 2019, whereafter a selection proces takes place. Successfull applicants will be notified by or before June 21. Fees Course participation is free of charge if you are enrolled at a Danish University. However, there is a fee for room and board (three nights in double occupancy) of DKK 2.100,00. Course participants will be invoiced. No-show fee is 7.000 DKK. Course material Course material and information about course preparation is expected to be sent to all course participants approx 1 month before the course.
