Aim and content
This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at graduate schools in the other Nordic countries. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at a Danish university, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. This also applies to PhD students from Nordic countries. After the enrollment deadline, available seats will be allocated to applicants on the waiting list.
Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
1. Critically assess randomized clinical trials of non-pharmacological interventions
2. Gain insight into the theory and concepts of randomized clinical trials for non-pharmacological interventions
3. Will be able identify critical aspects of the methodogy used in RCTs
4. Will be able to draft a protocol for a non-pharmacological intervention
Content
The cause wil introduce students to the concepts of the randomized clinical trials (RCTs) with specific focus on non-pharmacological interventions. The students will be introduced to the background and history of RCTs as well as skills for critically reviewing RCT reports. The students will in groups work together to produce a small protocol which is reviewed by teachers and students at the end of the course. The students are expected to work approximately 2 hours between course days to finish their protocol.
Participants
The target group is ph.d. students prior to or early in the proces of conducting a RCT for a non-pharmacological intervention.

The course is relevant to PhD students from the following graduate programmes at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences, UCPH:
Airways, Anesthesiology and Skin
Psychiatry
Basic and Clinical Research in Musculoskeletal Sciences
Language
Danish if the whole class speaks Danish, otherwise English
Form
A combination of lectures, group work and student presentations. The students divided into small groups and expected to produce a small protocol during the lessons and home-work may be required.
