This also applies to PhD students from Nordic countries. After the enrollment deadline, available seats will be allocated to applicants on the waiting list.

Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:

1. Understand the framework of precision public health

2. Understand how prognostic research can inform precision public health

3. Understand the key steps of prognostic modelling studies

4. Conduct appropriate methods for prognostic modelling

5. Appreciate the current challenges in prognostic research

Content
This course addresses the concept of precision public health, which is aimed at providing the right health intervention (prevention or treatment) to the right (sub)population at the right time. In this context, ‘right’ means provision of the best possible prognosis for the population.

After introducing the general framework of precision public health, a particular attention will be given to the role of and research methods for assessment of the prognosis and of its change by intervention. Throughout examples drawn from their own research projects, the lecturers will show how prognostic research can inform precision public health.

Then, the course will focus on the methodology of prognostic modelling. Practical exercises will support the lectures to allow students to perform methods for prognostic modelling. Finally, some insight will be given to current challenges and opportunities in prognostic research in precision public health.

While the recent literature reports a substantial increase of publications about prognostic research, only a minority of them is actually used to inform health decision-makers in practice.

This course aims to provide students with a broad understanding but also methods for conducting appropriate prognostic research, which ends up being useful in health settings.

Participants
PhD students who have interests in prognostic research. The maximum number of participants is 15.
