a.Understand the basic physics of MRI
a.Describe how and why MRI works
b.Explain how images are produced
b.Have a brief insight in the different components inside the MRI scanner
c.Have a general knowledge about common preclinical/clinical CMR protocols
d.Acquire some knowledge on how to determine myocardial perfusion, and important physiological variables
e.be familiar with the importance of optimizations of imaging parameters (e.g. Signal and noise, Contrast, Resolution…)
f.Have insight of the MR applications within different cardiac diseases with special reference to physiology, such as:
a.Aorta and aortic distensibility
b.Cardiomyopathies including systolic and diastolic function
c.Valvular heart diseases
d.Ischemic heart diseases
g.Reflect on MRI safety procedures
Content
The course will introduce the students to the basic principles of MRI and some applications within the cardiovascular system. The focus of the MRI applications will primarily be on how to determine clinically important aspects of morphology and function, although some preclinical Cardiac MR applications will be mentioned. The students will get knowledge of key terminology associated with cardiac MRI and will be able to understand which parameters (in MRI scanning protocols) are of important for different applications.
Participants
People who are working with and/or interested in cardiac MR applications. No prior knowledge of MRI is required. The maximum no. of participants is 20.
