Aim and content
Please note
This course was set to be offered during the NorDoc Summit 2020. The NorDoc Summit 2020 has been cancelled this year due to the covid-19 situation however, the PhD courses will still go on.

This generic course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH and NorDoc PhD students. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School or at a NorDoc member university, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list.

The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at graduate schools in the other Nordic countries. All other participants must pay the course fee

Learning objectives
To enable the student to work with the statistical software R. R is a free (based on open source principles) statistical software package, which is supported by a very large international research community. The program can be used to do all types of statistical analyses. Due to the open principles and the large supporting research community the latest statistical techniques are almost always available in R long before the commercial programs (SAS, SPSS, Stata).

Content
We will explain basic use of R; from data management through descriptive statistics and standard analysis to downloading and using packages with the latest statistical techniques from the web. Roughly half of the course will be spent doing exercises in the computer-rooms or using your own laptop. Main focus will be on the use of R, but there will also be time for discussing more statistical aspects of the methods. The whole course will be structured around a few real life cases.

You must bring your own laptop with R and R Studio installed.

Participants
