Content
The central aim of this PhD seminar is to provide a structured framework for participants to effectively communicate their research with the guidance from experts and fellow students. Prior to the seminar day, participants will prepare individual projects (abstract, presentation, flash talk and/or poster) relating to their PhD projects, with focus on communication and audience engagement.
As a significant social and scientific event, the PhD Seminar aims to both bridge the gap between groups and sections as well as strengthen the spirit of community among the students from the different departments located at SUND. Overall, this PhD Seminar course aims to provide an open and collaborative environment to stimulate networking and new interdisciplinary collaborations between young researchers. These discussions will benefit research at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, as well as inspire the PhD students to think more innovatively and creatively.
Specifically, the course is divided in the following elements:
Preparation
• PhD students need to submit an abstract before the registration deadline (18th September). Abstract guidelines are available in the course website (bmi.ku.dk/english/phd-seminar);
• Based on abstract evaluation, each PhD student will be selected for a poster, a poster and flash talk or an oral presentation based no later than 1 month before the event. Instructions for preparation of presentations and posters will be sent to you and are available on the course website.
PhD Seminar
• Scientific oral presentations and flash talks from PhD students. Best presentation and flash talks will be voted by the audience. The winners will be awarded a travel grant for a meeting of their choice;
• External presentation – scientist talk;
• Open poster session divided in 2 groups where students can freely engage in scientific discussions and share their projects. Poster will be evaluated by selected judges;
• Additionally, there will be time for Q&A after each presentation and networking in the coffee breaks and at the light dinner after the main event.
An abstract book will be available at the PhD day in paper form or electronically, and the students are expected to participate actively in the event sessions.
