Aim and content
This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at graduate schools in the other Nordic countries. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at a Danish university, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. This also applies to PhD students from Nordic countries. After the enrollment deadline, available seats will be allocated to applicants on the waiting list.
Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
1.Explain the basics aspects of virology with emphatize on viruses in animals
2.Understand basic virological terms and principles
3.Plan experimental in vivo and in vitro virological experiments
4.Understand the basics of vaccines and veterinary vaccinology
5.Be able to critically read peer reviewed litteratur on animal viruses
Content
The course covers topics in virological taxonomy and multiplication, classical and state of the art diagnostic methods, viral evolution and phylogeny, pathogenesis and virus' interaction with the immune system including principles and use of vaccines and insigth into zoonotic aspects of viruses. Emphasis is placed on viral infections in animals. Human virology is only breifly described
Participants
PhD students on projects involving virological aspects. Its required that the participants have a basic understanding of biology, but not necessary on veterinary or medical medicine

Form
Four different learning approaches will be used where the student: 1) read (preparation before the course); 2) listen (presentations by peers, teachers or guest speakers), 3) think (group work) 4) disseminate (oral presentations).

Applications from other participants will be considered after the last day of enrolment.
Note: All applicants are asked to submit invoice details in case of no-show, late cancellation or obligation to pay the course fee (typically non-PhD students). If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
