Aim and content
This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list.

The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at graduate schools in the other Nordic countries. All other participants must pay the course fee.

Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:

1.Present their work clearly and convincingly
2.Transform weak writing into strong writing
3.Appreciate the finer points of English grammar, usage and punctuation (especially the comma)
4.Apply their knowledge of the IMRAD structure
5.Write an appropriate cover letter in response to difficult-to-answer reviewer’s comments

Participants will build on knowledge acquired in previous courses. They will have the opportunity to further improve their writing skills and maximize the impact of their published research. Topics covered will include idiomatic phrases, verb tenses, the passive, prepositions, linking words and organizational signals, punctuation to clarify meaning, tightening up the language, and removing the dead wood.

Note: Participants have to send a short text (abstract, introduction or part of a discussion) for evaluation during the course and for rewriting after the course. The text should not have been professionally edited.
