Aim and content
This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list.
The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at graduate schools in the other Nordic countries. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Purpose and learning objectives
The course will address general grant writing skills that will be useful when writing research proposals aimed at a life in research after having finished your PhD.
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
1. tailor your proposals to the demands of the funding agencies, and assess whether your proposal is competitive
2. provide clear, convincing answers to the key requirements of novelty, feasibility, and impact
3. write a compelling abstract that conveys all your project strengths
4. make the most of your track record in your academic CV and complement it with a personal statement
5. construct a solid proposal budget
Content
Instructive sessions:
will cover the following topics: How to be persuasive when writing a grant proposal; how to describe the state-of-the-art and present your research objectives, your methodology and the novelty and potential impact of your project; how to clarify the feasibility of your project plan; and how to construct a CV/personal statement and a budget; And, Introduction to feedback criteria and feedback process.
Writing and Peer feedback sessions:
will cover the following activities; Write a one-page proposal, compare colleagues' proposal structure against the evaluation criteria; Plenary follow-up and take home messages.

Note: All applicants are asked to submit invoice details in case of no-show, late cancellation or obligation to pay the course fee (typically non-PhD students). If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
