Aim and content
This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at graduate schools in the other Nordic countries. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at a Danish university, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. This also applies to PhD students from Nordic countries. After the enrollment deadline, available seats will be allocated to applicants on the waiting list.


Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:

1. Understand the central conceptual, methodological and analytical challenges when dealing with social epidemiology
2. Describe and have insights into different ways of measuring social inequality
3. Discuss and define social stratification, social position and health
4. Explain life-course processes related to social epidemiology
5. Put the policy relevance of social epidemiology into perspective


Content
The course will provide an orientation to some main substantive, conceptual and methodological topics in understanding the determinants of population health and health inequalities, including a focus on a life-course perspective and contextual issues. Further the course will touch upon the policy relevance of social epidemiology.
