Aim and content
This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD Students from NorDoc member universities. All other participants must pay the course fee.

Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at a Danish university, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. This also applies to PhD students from NorDoc member universities. After the enrollment deadline, available seats will be allocated to applicants on the waiting list.


Learning objectives

A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:

1. have insight in and understand central research questions, definitions and methodological challenges related to reproductive epidemiology.

2. understand and describe how reproduction can be seen in a life cycle persepctive.

3. have insigth in and compare different study designs used within reproductive epidemiology.

4. identify, explain and discuss study design strengths and limitations in the field of reproductive epidemiology.

5. describe, explain and discuss projects and theorise upon own and other students' projects in relation to the methodological challenges taught during the course


Content

The aim of the course is to give an introduction to topics addressed within the area of reproductive epidemiology and the methodological study challenges, including examples of contemporary epidemiological studies using different methodological approaches. Within a life cycle perspective on reproduction, the course covers four modules focusing on methodological challenges within the field of reproductive epidemiology:

1) Fecundity and fertility

2) Pregnancy and child health

3) Fetal programming of reproductive health

4) Reproductive function and long-term health


Participants

PhD students and other researchers conducting reproductive epidemiological research. A basic epidemiological understanding is a prerequisite.

Form

The course will be structured around lectures from active scientist within the field with student involvement including student cases (presentation and discussion of their own PhD projects). Three weeks prior to the course each participant should send the course director the following information:

- Educational background

- Title of PhD project and a short description of its aims, the used design(s) and method(s) and its specific challenges to be discussed during the course. Please also note how far the project is.

- One or two questions that the student would like the lecturers to adress.

Note: All applicants are asked to submit invoice details in case of no-show, late cancellation or obligation to pay the course fee (typically non-PhD students). If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
