Aim and content This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list. The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at NorDoc member universities. All other participants must pay the course fee Learning objectives A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to: 1.define the purpose of their article 2.select relevant content 3.structure the article 4.write using an appropriate academic language Content Publication in international peer-reviewed journals is the key to a successful academic career. Meanwhile, early-career researchers with little experience face major challenges. The first step is conducting the research. The next step is writing an article and getting it published—a potentially daunting task fraught with difficulties. This course aims to help PhD students with a medical background tackle these difficulties and navigate their way through the writing and submission process to produce their first published article. Advice will be given on framing the research question, selecting relevant content, structuring the article, reading author guidelines, selecting an appropriate journal, and understanding the review process. Editors of scientific journals will share their insights and provide recommendations. In addition, participants will be introduced to relevant aspects of academic English. Importantly, throughout the course, participants will have the opportunity to work on their own articles, seek guidance, and apply the knowledge they have gained. Participants PhD students, primarily with a medical background.
