Aim and content This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list. The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at NorDoc member universities. All other participants must pay the course fee. Learning objectives A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to: 1. Get familiar with general grant writing principles and learn to tailor your proposals to the demands of the funding agencies 2. Provide a clear, convincing answers to the key requirements of novelty, feasibility, and impact 3. Provide a clear, convincing answers to the key requirements of novelty, feasibility, and impact 4. Write a compelling abstract that conveys all your project strengths 5. Make the most of your track record in your academic CV and complement it with a personal statement Content Instructive sessions will be covering the following topics: How to be persuasive when writing a grant proposal; how to describe the state-of-the-art and present your research objectives, your methodology and the novelty and potential impact of your project; how to clarify the feasibility of your project plan; and how to construct a CV/personal statement. Day 1: Preparing your one-page proposal The programme will cover a variety of activities: short introductions, group work, and writing assignments Day 2: Peer feedback on proposals Activities cover a variety of short introductions, group work, and writing assignments Step 1: Introduction to feedback criteria and feedback process Step 2: Compare colleagues' proposal structure against the evaluation criteria Step 3: Common follow-up and take home messages. Participants PhD students in the second half of their scholarship with an aim to stay in academia. The course will be addressing general grant writing skills that will be useful when writing research proposals aimed at a life in research after having finished a PhD. If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
