Aim and content
This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list.
The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at NorDoc member faculties. All other participants must pay the course fee
Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
1. Identify and qualify own supervision style
2. Plan and conduct supervision conversations
3. Reflect on own preferred leadership style and widen the scope of styles used
4. Qualify meetings and collaboration processes with co-workers
5. Give and receive feedback constructively
Content
Insight into theories of situational leadership and different leadership styles and constructive application of these - and understanding of how these can be used in supervision. Theories of supervision,
communication theories and conversational mastery - insight into communication models, getting the supervision process started in a way that ensures alignment of expectations and the understanding of the student of the context, he or she will be part of during the supervision period. Understanding supervision given to one self and tools to improve the supervision that the Ph.D-student receives. Theories on feedback - how to give and receive feedback with effect.

Ph.D students who are supervising or will supervise others. Also relevant for Ph.D.students who are teaching, making presentations and communicating with patients.

Presentations, group work, reflection, exercises. Count on 2 extra work hours between module 1 and 2 - and 2-4 work hours between module 2 and 3.

Applications from other participants will be considered after the last day of enrolment.
Note: All applicants are asked to submit invoice details in case of no-show, late cancellation or obligation to pay the course fee (typically non-PhD students). If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
