Aim and content
This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list.
The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at NorDoc member faculties. All other participants must pay the course fee.
This workshop does not grant ECTS credits
Content
In this workshop, you will gain comprehensive insights into crafting scientific visualizations for your research papers and presentations using the online tool known as Mind the Graph. Just like other available services, Mind the Graph empowers your illustrations with an array of freely accessible stock visuals.
Our session will cover the following key aspects:
- Fundamental orientation to the platform's interface and functionalities.
- Discovering and adapting pre-designed content to suit your needs.
- Navigating illustration creation tools and techniques for crafting custom visuals.
- You will learn to generate unique illustrations, even complex environments like cellular environment.
- We look at how to make a Journal or a full poster with Mind the Graph.
- Incorporating textual information, annotations, arrows, and symbols seamlessly.
- Harnessing design elements and external stock images from tools like Illustrator.
- We will provide you with links to to premium websites offering free downloadable illustrations, expanding your resource pool.
- You're encouraged to showcase your ongoing projects. If time permits, we'll offer personalized guidance on your specific endeavors towards the end of the training.
Just as with other available services, Mind the Graph empowers you to communicate complex scientific concepts visually, enhancing the impact and clarity of your work.

Participants are expected to bring their own laptop with MindTheGraph and a mouse. You can download the programme at: https://mindthegraph.com/. The Graduate School cannot provide you with any assistance acquiring the programme.

Teacher
The workshop is instructed by Jimmy Machon. Jimmy is Adobe certificated expert and instructor and one of the few Apple certified trainers in Denmark. Jimmy also has experience in teaching in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effect, Animate CC and Final Cut Pro.

Seats to PhD students from other Danish universities will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and according to the applicable rules.
Applications from other participants will be considered after the last day of enrolment.
Note: All applicants are asked to submit invoice details in case of no-show, late cancellation or obligation to pay the course fee (typically non-PhD students). If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
