Aim and content This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list. The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at NorDoc member universities. All other participants must pay the course fee. Course title Introduction to R for Basic Statistics Learning objectives The course aims to give an introduction to the statistical software R by the user interface Rstudio. The course is designed for health science researcher who wants to become more familiar with R for simple calculations, data management, data exploration and analysis. In particular, the course provides basic functionalities matching the needs for the courses “Basic Statistics for Health Science Researchers” and “Statistics for Experimental Researchers”. A student who has met the objectives of the course should be able to: • Import/load data into R • Use the interface Rstudio • Implement basic calculation in R • Manipulate data in R • Create descriptive analyses in R • Plot graphics in R Content We will explain basic concepts on the statistical software R (install R and Rstudio interface, upload packages, load/write data ). Use of functions in R with the help page and simple mathematical calculations. Basic tools for data manipulation (data structures in R, data frame creation, define/select variables), descriptive statistics in R and creation of graphics in basic R (scatterplot, box-plot and histogram). Half of the course will include exercises. Prerequisites: • The course is for people that have no or little prior knowledge of R. Participants Ph.D.-students. In case of vacant seats, also other health researchers. The maximum number of participants is 50. Relevance to graduate programmes The course is relevant to PhD students from the following graduate programmes at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences, UCPH: All graduate programmes Language English Form The course will be mostly interactive with a mixture of lectures and exercises. Course location CSS Registration Please register before 17 November 2023 Seats to PhD students from other Danish universities will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and according to the applicable rules. Applications from other participants will be considered after the last day of enrollment. Note: All applicants are asked to submit invoice details in case of no-show, late cancellation or obligation to pay the course fee (typically non-PhD students). If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
