Aim and content
This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD Students from NorDoc member faculties. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at a Danish university, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. This also applies to PhD students from NorDoc member faculties. After the enrollment deadline, available seats will be allocated to applicants on the waiting list.

All students applying for this course will be placed on a waiting list. To get a seat on the course, the students must send an abstract of their work to the course manager Fena Ochs.The deadline for sending the abstract is the same as the registration deadline. The students will be selected for the course based on their abstracts.
Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
1. Understand the theoretical aspects of high-content microscopy
2. Plan high-content experiments from sample preparation to sample imaging
3. Analyse large microscopy data sets using open access software tools
4. Discuss the potential of quantitative imaging in biomedical research
5. Understand the most recent and revolutionary developments in bioimaging
Content
This five-day comprehensive course covers the entire spectrum of quantitative bioimaging, starting from the fundamental basis of high-content microscopy, instrumentation, sample preparation, molecular markers, right to the most recent and revolutionary developments in bioimaging and bioimage data analysis, including artificial intelligence in microscopy. The course is designed for researchers having previous experience with microscopy as the course includes a poster session and optional high-content imaging of own samples.
The course consists of theoretical lectures, training in imaging on high-content imaging systems from Olympus (ScanR), and acquisition of datasets of own samples or samples provided by the organisers. The students will furthermore exercise bioimage data analysis using open access software including artificial intelligence based approaches. In addition, the course will include a poster session to exhibit participant's projects and help develop quantitative imaging strategies to individual projects. Finally, the most recent and revolutionary developments in quantitative biomedical imaging will be presented by internationally renowned experts.
Participants
The course is offered to PhD students from relevant fields at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. The course is offered to students with previous microscopy experience, who would benefit from implementing quantitative imaging or analysis approaches. Participants are encouraged to contact the organisers beforehand if they wish to bring their own samples. All participants need a laptop for the image analysis sessions. In order to be enroled in the course, please send an abstract of your work (max. 200 words) to the course director (fena.ochs@bric.ku.dk) and we will inform you by August 2024 whether you have been selected for the course/poster or short talk presentation. 12 participants total. Deadline for sending your abstract is 1 July 2024.

This 5-day course is aimed at PhD students in chromosome biology (e.g. DNA replication, DNA repair, cell division, transcription) with clear questions in microscopy. The aim of this course is to train students in furthering their microscopy skills to implement high-content imaging and/or automated quantitative analysis protocols in their research. The course consists of:
- theoretical lectures covering instrumentation, sample preparation, imaging and image analysis
- keynote lectures from international experts in the fields highlighting the power of quantitative imaging in chromosome biology
- practical training and possibility to acquire datasets of own samples
- biomedical image analysis training including artificial intelligence
- introduction to the most recent and revolutionary developments in microscopy
- a poster session to present own work to specialists in the field
