Aim and content This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list. The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at NorDoc member faculties. All other participants must pay the course fee Learning objectives A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to: 1. have insight in different performance techniques used in a presentation 2. understand the 7 principles of conveying a message effectively 3. select appropriate media for presentation 4. design Tables and Figures optimally 5. optimize their research presentation based on the skills obtained during the course Content Presenting research results at congresses, annual meetings, posters and for other purposes is an important part of a PhD study. This part is commonly underestimated, and the presenter may inadvertently fail at conveying the key messages of their presentation. The purpose of this course is to provide the participants with tools for optimizing performance and presentation techniques. Before the start of the course, each participant is asked to prepare a short oral presentation (duration max. 5 min.) prior to course. The topic must be a presentation of your own research project. The participants are free to choose between presentation tools such as PowerPoint and a technology-free oral presentation. The course is conducted as an interaction between short presentation and training through practical exercises. Participants Targets are PhD students within the health and medical sciences. Participants should have a presentation task to solve which may span everything from classroom teaching, scientific presentation for peers or at conferences, or PhD defense. Relevance to graduate programmes The course is relevant to PhD students from the following graduate programmes at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences, UCPH: All graduate programmes Language English or Danish, dependent on participants Form The course alternates between presentations, workshops, exercises, student presentations, feedback, and individual coaching.
