Aim and content
This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrollment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list.
The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at NorDoc member faculties. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
1. Understand the differences between a scoping review and a systematic review and when to choose which approach
2. Have knowledge of the development of different methodological approaches to scoping reviews
3. Understand the steps involved in conducting a scoping review and outline a protocol for a scoping review
4. Critically appraise a scoping review
5. Put into perspective the contribution of scoping reviews to evidence-based practice
Content
This course will provide an introduction to how the scoping review methodology has evolved over time. Furthermore, students will be introduced to the difference between systematic reviews and scoping reviews, including when to use which approach. The steps involved in conducting a scoping review will be covered and the contribution of scoping reviews to evidence-based practice discussed.
