Aim and content
This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD Students from NorDoc member faculties. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at a Danish university, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. This also applies to PhD students from NorDoc member faculties. After the enrollment deadline, available seats will be allocated to applicants on the waiting list.
Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
1.Understand Mitochondrial Basics: Grasp the fundamental aspects of mitochondrial structure, function, and biogenesis
2.Explore Mitochondrial Dynamics: Learn about the processes of mitochondrial fission, fusion, and quality control mechanisms.
3.Investigate Mitochondria in Disease: Analyze the role of mitochondria in aging, neurodegenerative diseases, and other pathologies.
4.Apply Experimental Techniques: Master advanced techniques for studying mitochondrial function, including high-resolution imaging, mtDNA analysis, and metabolic assays.
5.Engage in Scientific Communication and Discussions: Participate in discussions and case studies to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in mitochondrial research.
Content
The course is a comprehensive 5-day program designed for PhD students to gain an in-depth understanding of mitochondrial biology and its impact in maintaining immune and neuronal homeostasis. The course covers fundamental concepts, advanced research techniques, and the latest scientific discoveries related to mitochondria in the field. Participants will engage in lectures and interactive sessions led by renowned experts, exploring topics such as mitochondrial dynamics, biogenesis, and their roles in diseases. Moreover, students will have the chance to share their research through a poster session that will culminate in an interactive debate aiming to solve their own experimental issues. This course aims to equip students with theoretical knowledge on mitochondrial biology, essential for their research careers, fostering critical thinking and providing valuable networking opportunities.
