Aim and content This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD Students from NorDoc member faculties. All other participants must pay the course fee. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at a Danish university, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. This also applies to PhD students from NorDoc member faculties. After the enrollment deadline, available seats will be allocated to applicants on the waiting list. Learning objectives A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to: 1.Understand the historical development of pharmacological research in treatment of mental health disorders 2.Present an overview of important pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic variables to consider when planning clinical research in psychopharmacology 3.Describe important aspects to consider in relation to blinding of study medication 4.Get acquainted with requirements for registration and documentation before and during the conduct of a pharmacological clinical trial 5.Initiate and adjust plans for recruitment Content A historical view of important milestones in the development of modern neuropsychopharmacology including current and future classifications. A repetition of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics of pharmaceutical compounds that are important when planning a clinical trial and when interpreting the results. Important aspects regarding blinding of study medication. Description of the design and workflow in CTIS and what to be aware of. Other important/possible registration possibilities. Experiences from others regarding recruitment to learn what makes an efficient recruitment set-up. Participants PhD students who are part of a clinical trial in psychiatry investigating one or more pharmaceutical compounds. The course is designed to introduce the PhD student to the field in a broader sense and is therefore recommended in the beginning of the PhD study (within the first 6-10 months). Relevance to graduate programmes The course is relevant to PhD students from the following graduate programmes at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences, UCPH: Psychiatry Language Danish, but English if required by the attendance of non-Danish participants. If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
