Enrolment guidelines
This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School). Special rules apply for research year students enrolled at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student, you will be placed on the waiting list for the course until enrollment deadline. After the deadline of enrollment, available seats will be allocated to students on the waiting list.
Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
a. Understand the basic mechanism of major groups of pathogens and their interactions with the host.
b. Understand the importance of the innate and adaptive immune system and the involvement of the component in the immune response to pathogens.
c. Describe fundamental mechanisms of the immune system and the importance of the different components in inflammatory diseases.
d. Reflect on strategies to deal with inflammatory reactions in relation to diseases.
Content
Pathogens (virus, bacteria, parasites) are all involved in major diseases affecting man and animals. Increasing amount of knowledge about how the innate and adaptive immune system on a molecular level combats these pathogens has been achieved during recent years. Furthermore it has become increasingly evident that inflammatory diseases constitute an important issue involving both systems. The course aims to convey current basic knowledge of the immune system and its involvement in infectious and inflammatory diseases by leading international scientists.
