Aim and content This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list. The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at NorDoc member faculties. All other participants must pay the course fee ”Special rules apply for this course” The course is mandatory for PhD students in the graduate programmes DRA and MoMeD and therefore these PhD students have first priority. This means that all applicants will be put on the waiting list upon registration, and after deadline all participants will be notified whether they are given a seat. Please note that this course is similar to the PhD course “Finishing your PhD and planning your future career” (course number starting with 3782) Learning objectives A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to: 1. Plan the final stage of the PhD project 2. Learn methods to keep motivation up and procrastination down 3. Implement Business Model You® to envision the next career step 4. Understand the importance of networking 5. Become familiar with formal aspects of thesis submission at the Graduate school of Health and medical sciences Content In this training, PhD students will learn methods to plan the final stage of their research project. These emphasize keeping motivation up dealing with potential conflicts, focusing on the right priorities, and avoiding procrastination. They will learn to use the Business Model You® approach. This model helps each person to clarify their value to potential employers. With this model in hand, they can plan their next career steps. One of the most important factors to find the next job in science is networking. Part of the training will deal with this topic on different levels. The PhD students will assess their current network. They will work on strategies to expand their network. And they will be part of a group of peer students who they can rely on and network with. At the end of the training they will have a detailed working plan for achieving the last milestones in their PhD project, and a clearer vision of the next career step. Course day 1 will also feature talks by Graduate school representative and a former PhD student about formal aspects of submission, writing process as well as tips for the final stage of PhD. If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
