Join us for an Inspiring debate for PhD students, postdocs and supervisors at The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences

For many PhD students and postdocs, the PhD is accompanied by an important – and sometimes scary – question: What comes next?
In Denmark, most PhD graduates and postdocs will build their careers outside universities. This makes it essential to start reflecting early on career paths, transferable skills, and how to position oneself in a broader job market.

This seminar is designed to support early career researchers and supervisors in this transition. By bringing together voices from industry, public sector employers, and former PhD graduates, we aim to provide insights into career opportunities, inspiration for different paths, and concrete advice on how to prepare for a meaningful and successful career beyond academia.

We start off with a presentation by Head of Research Christian Kjær Monsson from Danish Industry providing a short analytical overview of the transitions after the PhD in Denmark.

This is followed by a panel debate with short presentations from industry representatives, public employers, and former PhD students where there are opportunities to ask questions. Topics include career planning, practical advice on navigating the shift from academia to industry and understanding what employers value when recruiting.

The debate is followed by advice from the head of graduate school on what to do during the PhD to plan and make the transition smoother, as well as advice from a career counsellor on building an effective CV and opportunities for individual guidance.
