Enrolment guidelines
This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrollment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list.
The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at NorDoc member faculties. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Learning objectives
Students who have met the objectives of the course will be able to:
1. Structure a generic research paper.
2. Understand and use Authors’ Guidelines and analyse the structure in a specific journal.
3. Write a literature review.
4. Give and receive constructive mutual feedback.
5. Use LLMs (e.g., Mistral, Copilot) ethically and effectively to improve their writing.
6. Interpret and respond to peer review comments.
Content
We will discuss the generic IMRad (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion)- structure and the concept and use of a literature review, practice mutual feedback and the use of LLMs, and discuss and practice how to respond to reviewer’s feedback.
Participants
The course is designed for PhD students who are about to submit their first or second paper. Prior participation in Academic Writing Level 1 is a plus, but not mandatory.

3 days (three 8-hour in-person sessions + homework): Face-to-face classroom tuition and group work using relevant hard-copy material and examples interspersed with extensive homework. Participants will give and receive peer feedback on their writing.
