Content
Generative AI is rapidly becoming part of everyday research practice. Many PhD students already use AI when reading literature, analysing data, writing manuscripts or preparing their thesis. Supervisors may struggle with giving guidance while navigating a landscape of evolving guidelines, journal policies and institutional expectations.
This interactive workshop explores where AI can support good academic practice - and where its use raises important questions. Through realistic cases and small-group discussions, participants will examine common grey zones in thesis and manuscript writing, including AI-assisted drafting, revision, disclosure, and the balance between efficiency and learning.
The workshop combines perspectives from research integrity, journal editing and educational practice. Rather than focusing on specific tools, it aims to strengthen participants' ability to make informed decisions about when, how and why to use generative AI in their own research.
The session is intended for PhD students, their supervisors, and postdoctoral researchers.
Facilitated by Jens Lykkesfeldt and Nicole Schmitt.
