Enrolment guidelines This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list. The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at NorDoc member faculties. All other participants must pay the course fee. Please note that this course is similar to the Scientific Project Planning and Management 1 (SPP1) for MoMeD and DRA PhD students (course number starting with 3731) Target group: PhD students in their first year Learning objectives: • Apply classical project management methods — including goal clarification, risk identification, and the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) — to structure and plan their own scientific project, including a Gantt chart for the next three months. • Apply agile principles and effective reporting practices to the execution of their research project. • Develop personal time-management strategies, including prioritization techniques and delegation skills, to manage their workload more effectively. • Develop strategies for navigating supervisor relationships and managing perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and stress, in order to work more sustainably throughout their PhD. Content: This two-day course introduces PhD students to project management methods tailored to scientific research. On day one, participants will clarify their project goals, identify and address typical research risks, and apply the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to plan roles and milestones, culminating in a Gantt chart for the next three months. The day continues with agile project management principles, reporting strategies, and team dynamics, closing with a reflection on motivation and resilience. Day two focuses on self-management: setting priorities, effective time-management tools, and delegation practice. The afternoon addresses supervisor relationships and strategies for managing perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and stress.
